This program will be offered again. Please check back!
Did your child come with an instruction booklet? I haven't heard of any! Does one approach work with one child but not another? Parenting can be a challenging experience!
Do you want to be an “askable” parent? One your child can approach? Communication is such an important part of our relationships with our children! How can we develop positive communication with them? What strategies will help us raise responsible, resilient and resourceful children?
Over the course of two sessions, we will examine this important topic. We will learn about different parenting styles and their impact on parent-child relationships. We will check out various communication "blockers” that create obstacles between our children and us. Practicing the process of "active listening,” will enable us to better understand and help our children. Using communication techniques that build relationships will be shared.
Whether you are a parent of a young child or a teenager, come join us to learn new tools for effective parenting! Committing time now can result in a lifetime of benefit!
This program will be offered again. Please check back!

QPR for Suicide Prevention
QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is intended to teach those who are in a position to recognize the warning signs, clues and suicidal communications of people in trouble to ACT vigorously to prevent a possible tragedy. The training takes just one or two hours and is taught in a format that is clear and concise. Gatekeepers – those who may come on contact with others who may be considering suicide – are given information that is easy to understand and reinforced by a QPR booklet and card complete with warning signs, methods to encourage a person to get help and a list of resources available in their community. It is not intended to be a form of counseling or treatment, but it is intended to offer hope through positive action.
Audience: ALL members of our community, including parents of K-12 children. Program length: 1-2 hours.
Please call 317.586.2141 for dates and fee information.
(QPR is program approved by the Indiana Department of Education to fulfill suicide prevention training for staff in grades 5-12 and for the licensing requirement for suicide prevention training for teachers and counselors. Carlabeth is a Certified QPR instructor.)
