Carlabeth Mathias brings over 30 years of experience as a teacher, school counselor and consultant to schools, churches, and community agencies and groups. She presents one hour to full-day workshops on important topics in education, in mental health and for families. Carlabeth offers training in classroom management, student behavior, attention deficit disorder, self-esteem, grief and loss, parenting skills, and affective education, to name just a few. She frequently makes presentations to Stephen Ministry programs at several local churches.

Helping Students with Anxiety and Depression

More and more students are coming to school with anxiety or depression. In this intensive three-hour workshop, you will be able to identify the key elements and symptoms of anxiety and depression in children and teens, learn about treatment for each disorder, and leave with practical strategies that you can use in your setting to provide specific help and interventions for children and teens who suffer from anxiety and depression. A variety of materials will address the needs of different grade levels, K-12. Counselors/Social Workers/Teachers/Psychologists/Support Staff/Childcare Workers/K-12. CRUs, CEUs* and Certificates of Attendance are all available and included in the cost.

Helping Students Develop Assertiveness Skills

This practical workshop equips professionals to help students develop appropriate assertiveness skills, through individual or small group counseling. Participants will learn what part of the student population needs assertiveness training and how to teach its various components. You will experience and practice many practical strategies you can use immediately upon returning to your work setting. Excellent training for those who want to offer more services for students who are bullied, those who are bullying others, or for increasing social skills counseling in general. A Journey Through Grief and Loss: Helping Children and Teens Heal

Participants will develop a basic understanding of grief and loss, how children perceive grief and loss, the way it manifests itself in children, and how, as caring adults, they can help children cope with the grief and loss in their lives. “No Bullying Now” --- Bullying Prevention for Schools

A trainer in bullying prevention/intervention, Carlabeth also educates teachers, counselors, nurses and administrators through her day-long workshop, “No Bullying Now!” Using an evidence-based manual included in the workshop, Bully Busters, the program is designed to reduce bullying in elementary, junior high and middle schools. This is effective because it is a comprehensive program that addresses all the major components of the bullying problem. Bully Busters combines a number of strategies, all of which have proven successful:
• A systemic, whole-school approach

Children with specific disorders, such as ADD/ADHD, Mood Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder and others, may exhibit behaviors that are challenging to handle.
